Imperial County: Taking Back the Salton Sea
A 30-Year Strategic Plan // 2016
I was first intrigued by Imperial County and the Salton Sea through my adventures as a photographer. I travelled over three hours to Imperial County from Los Angeles to photograph the decay of what used to be a popular tourist destination. A former resort town is now home to abandoned buildings, piles of dead fish, and scattered informal settlements. Imperial County might feel like a ghost town but it is home to 174,528 people.
This research paper proposes a thirty year strategic plan that focuses on a type of sustainability defined by social equity, intense environmental restoration, and economic development.
